Ooty Trip
Ooty Trip November 5, 6 and 7
November 5
Woke up at 4 in the morning, checked my mail, had coffee and started to keep the luggage inside the car, got ready by 5 and left at 6. All of us had our breakfast at Indradanush, we were worried that we had passed it, we hadn’t we reached there at 6:30 had lunch by around 7 and headed towards Ooty.
The journey was amazing; we reached Ooty at around 1. We passed through Kangere, Mandya,Mysore and then Nanjangud (the road here is very bad!) The next town was Gundalpate, that was the last city in Karnataka, after this we entered the Bandipur National Park we crossed the border and went to the National Park Madhumalai, this falls in Tamil Nadu, just after this I lost my network.
After this we crossed the Park and reached a town and then we joined the Ghats section, I had network still and I called 2 of my closest friends! The ghats section was scary! We crossed 36 hair pin bends, blind curves and you cannot see what is coming from the opposite side, and there are cliffs which are at a great height right next to you! The roads were winding and scary!
As soon as we entered the city, there were guides, they are un-trust worthy, they steal and ask for a lot of money! We did not take one. We reached the famous Charring Cross! So from there we asked directions and reached our Hotel Willow Hill, it is beautiful, the air was pure and the view from the room was amazing! It was really cold, so after settling into the room, I switched on my computer and saw the places which could see, and we decided to go to the Ooty Lake and the Botanical Garden.
We had our lunch at Preethi Palace, the food was alright, not the kind a like, but then I was hungry so I ate some. The rasam here was bad! Sambar was alright, but the rice was boiled I am not use to this kind at all.
I am afraid of water so I did not go into the boat. My older brother Uttam and my father went in a paddle boat they had loads of fun! They were amazed with the currents in the water! The weather was bad! It was really cold and it was sunny at the same time! Something I have never felt!
So after this we went to the Botanical Garden it costs Rs145 Rs10 for adults and 30 for still camera’s and 75 for video camera’s, we had loads of fun here! The flowers were nice, and they had trees from all around the world! Australia and even Canada! It was nice and getting dark, after that we went to the Market which was right next to the Botanical Garden, it was like our Basavangudi, but it was weird, thank God dad knows Tamil, we went around the Charring Cross 3 times, and the Police Uncle helped us find our way!
The market was nice, they had loads of stuff, we went to a Handicraft shop, and saw some stuff which was nice, we decided to go back home, it was getting dark and we did not want to lose our way back! So we headed back to our hotel.
So we reached home at about 6, I took pictures of the sunset from the window! It was amazing, the horizon was amazing. I turned on the laptop to see what else we can do the next morning! We were amazed that there was only 2 things left, one was the Centenary Rose Garden, and the other was Doddabetta Hill. We decided to go to Coonnoor the next morning. We had dinner at our hotel, Willow Hill. The dinner was nice, the Roti’s were very tasty! So was the Paneer Tikka. The curry was also very tasty, I had soup after the entire dinner as the weather was very cold! The soup was amazing, and it helped a lot! The whole meal costs about 500.
November 6
I woke up at around 5 and it was really cold, I wore a sweater, and it wasn’t enough! It was very very cold and we had to get ready, so we started having our baths as early as 6 in the morning, Dad went in first as he likes a cold water bath! Uttam went then I did and Amma went in last the, bath was refreshing and hot it helped for a while! I wore the dress Deepti my best friend selected! It was warm but I needed more, so I wore the new sweater! We ate our breakfast in the hotel, Daddy, Uttam and I had omelets and toasts when Amma had only 2 toasts with Butter and Jam.
So after that, we left for the Centenary Rose Garden it cost 75 for 4 including Still and Video Camera , it was nice, but there were way too many roses and their names were funny! It was amazing looking at all those Roses, and I went photography crazy! I clicked 100’s of photos, and most of them came out well! After this, we left for Doddabetta, it is the tallest peak in South India, and it is between the Western and Eastern Ghats! It had the most amazing view! I bought the gifts here for most of my friends. When we were on the way to the hill, we saw a clean Te Chocolate shop called High Hill Tea! High Hill Tea in other words is Doddabetta! To my amazement I had clicked a photo of their estate when we were going up. All of us both loads of chocolates and tea! It coasted Rs20.
After this we decided and left for Coonoor. The journey was amazing, the view was breath taking! We drove through the clouds it was amazing, we put our hands out and felt the clouds it was amazing! So we reached the town, it was very similar to Ooty, but it had some more people. We wanted to go to Sims Park, but it was just like the Botanical Garden and the Rose Garden. So we left it, and then the other place we had decided was Dolphins Peak, but that wasn’t good again. So we decided that we should have lunch and leave the place. So we went looking for a place, we found Gateway Hotel which is on Church Road Coonoor, it was beautiful again, the food was ok, it wasn’t too bad but it was really expensive! We ordered 3 dishes Tandoori Aloo our starter, 3 sets of 3 Phulkas each, and an Aloo Jeera curry and it came to 573.76! That is very high!
So after this we headed back to Ooty, we wanted to pick up some more Chocolates, after that Daddy, Uttam and I had a chocolate tea! Amma had Masala Tea, it tasted nice. We went to the market so we can buy some stuff, Amma bought me a keychain and bought some stuff made out of shells! They look nice and they are very delicate! So after that we headed back to the hotel, we rested for a while, and then decided to go for dinner. We had nothing else to see in the town, so we decided to leave the next morning Friday the 7th November.
Amma had spotted a hotel which served only vegetarian food, The Paradise which was on The Glanton Manor road, just off Charring Cross. So there we ordered lots of food, and it was very spicy! Masala Papad, Green Salad, Gobi 65 which was a bad, Vegetable Soup, Gobi Paratha, Meti Roti’s for Dad, Uttam and me, Dhal Tadka, Vegetable Kolapuri, Special Buryani and Vegetable Pulav, Rs 615 for all of this!
So after we reached the hotel, we started to pack whatever we did not require for the next morning. Most of our stuff was packed, we slept at 8:45, which is very early for all of us! All the shops in the town were closed at 8!
November 7
All of us woke up at 5:30 and started to get ready, at 7 daddy ordered our breakfast, Uttam went for his walk, and daddy was having his bath, I went in next. All of us were ready by 7 and we went for breakfast at 7:30 and we finished off by 8 and left Ooty at 8:30 half an hour late. We took the wrong and longer route, but, it was more pretty! The flowers, the view from the hill, we got to see Pykara dam, and the lake. After that we saw a small waterfall, which is very cute! We kept in going down and down and more down. It was amazing looking at all of this nature! We drove through the clouds it was amazing! Words cannot describe it! The small little Buddhist Temple was the best, it is very cute and the location it is ate makes it more attractive!
So we had lunch in Mysore at 2 in the afternoon at Dashprakash! South Indian which was amazing! I ate almost everything! The North Indian part was bad! So mummy and me left it! Uttam drove back to Bangalore. The journey was long! Since we took the other route, we saw more of the Madhumalai Forest Reserve, which is huge! The only animals we saw there was Monkey’s, Limur’s and Mongooses! We stopped at Kamath for Sugar Cane juice at around 3:30, we took till 4:30 to reach Bangalore, loads of traffic in Kangere and Mandya!
The entire trip was amazing, the food, the photos, the people, and getting to know Tamil a bit. Vanakam people! Thanks for seeing this! Hopefully this influences you to see the place!
